Macintosh

Macintosh, shortened to Mac, is a brand name of personal computers designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc. The Macintosh was introduced in 1984. It was the first commercially successful personal computer to feature a mouse and a graphical user interface rather than a command-line interface. Previous to these personal computers, one had to know a lot of commands to operate computers. But, after the advent of these Personal computers, the user could use a mouse and pin point on the monitor screen to click a button to operate computer than typing a difficult set of commands. Hence, working on computers became so easy. That is how Macintosh became a trend setter in the personal computing world.

Mac, iMac and Mac OS X

Mac is a personal Computer while Mac OS is an operating system. Mac operating system works only on Mac computers, unlike Windows, where winodws works even on Mac computers. iMac is a modern Mac PC and there is still an advance version called Mac Pro. Mac is very popular in Notebook PC segment. Due to Mac's high performance, image artists, visualisers, specail effect creators prefer mac computers and Mac Operating systems to Window based computers. The most recent version of the operating system is Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard."

Windows and Mac

Microsoft Windows which came after Macintosh has borrowed a lot of features from Mac. Hence, from the user's point of view, there are a lot of similarities in the basic working styles of Mac and Windows. However, if you are good at Windows XP, understanding Mac is not a difficult task at all. A few hours of learning makes you a good Mac operator.

You Must Know Mac Why?

I had first seen Windows based computers some during 1992. But till 1996, neither had I seen nor heard a computer called Mac! Even after that, I never worked on Mac, because, I was comfortable using Windows at home, office and everywhere. So, I was under the impression that, I don't have to know Mac at all. But, my Idea changed, when I visited US in 2008, where in many newspaper offices and Universities I just could not use computers as they were Macs. This incident changed my perception towards Mac. Hence, my tip is – “learn a lot of Mac, even if you are an expert on windows. It really helps.”

Learning Mac is not a big thing. Mac machines come bundled with self tutors. Also there are a lot of online tutorials. If you earn in an institution, that's even better.
